This June marked 20 incredible years of SGNIC.

SGNIC’s Board, Management team and staff (both ex and current), registrars, system vendors and other stakeholders came together to celebrate this significant milestone.

The anniversary celebrations kick-started with the “SGNIC Domain Name Community Seminar”, which was organised for SGNIC’s registrars, resellers and web-hosting players.  The seminar showcased SGNIC’s initiatives in the areas of business intelligence, DNS abuse management, registration enforcement and security for the past 20 years. External speakers, Mr Low Jia-Rong from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and Prof Tan Tin Wee from the Singapore National Supercomputing Centre, spoke at the seminar on ICANN’s Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) transition and Internationalised Domain Names (IDN) respectively.

An evening reception was also held to thank SGNIC’s Board, staff, registrars and business partners as well as to celebrate the joyous milestone.  Mr Queh Ser Pheng, General Manager of SGNIC, said: “20 years in the Internet era is a long time. On 18 June 1997, SGNIC had its humble beginning as a small unit under the then National Computer Board.  It has survived the dot com boom and bust, various financial crises and has grown to be a reputable registry in the region offering trusted and secure .sg domain names. This achievement would not have been possible without the sheer drive and commitment of past and present SGNIC Board, management team and staff. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our registrars, valued business partners and stakeholders from the public sector. Without their support, SGNIC would not be successful. Moving forward, SGNIC will continue to play a catalytic role to support Singapore’s drive for a digital economy and to contribute to the Internet and Domain Name communities for a sustainable and secure Internet.”

SGNIC Board, Management team and staff would like to thank all guests who had joined in SGNIC’s 20th Anniversary Celebration.
