Course Highlights
This workshop helps attendees analyse domain name and DNS abuses, and use various strategies, techniques and tools to handle those abuses. Through a combination of presentations, demonstrations and hands-on exercises, attendees will learn how to collect information (e.g. domain name owner, IP addresses and webhosts) required for further investigations.
Target Audience
DNS Technical Staff (Registrars, Webhosting providers, ISPs, CERTs and law enforcement agencies).
Workshop Goals
- To improve the security response readiness of the local Internet community against domain name and DNS abuses.
- Allow participants to understand tools and techniques to perform DNS abuse investigation.
- Study different mitigations techniques against DNS abuse incidents.
Course Prerequisites
- Basic DNS and domain name knowledge
- Basic Linux/Unix commands
- A WiFi capable laptop to bring to class.

Course Instructor
Champika Wijayatunga
Engagement Manager (ICANN)
Champika is the ICANN's Regional Security, Stability and Resiliency (SSR) Engagement Manager for the Asia Pacific. He supports the ICANN's external SSR program and represents ICANN in operational, technical and capacity building forums in the APAC region.
Prior to ICANN, Champika was the Training Unit Manager at APNIC, the Regional Internet Registry for the Asia Pacific. He also served as a Team Leader, a Senior Training Specialist and also APNIC's Liaison Officer for the South Asia region. Champika started his career with IBM Corporation as a Systems Engineer and worked in IT industry, academia, research, and training environments in the Asia Pacific.
