From 25 August 2019 onwards, all National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) numbers and other national identification numbers entered into SGNIC’s domain name registration system will be further protected with SGNIC’s secured storage mechanism. SGNIC will not be keeping your full NRIC or other national identification number in our system. This is in line with Singapore’s Advisory Guidelines On The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) For NRIC And Other National Identification Numbers.  All other personal data provided to SGNIC has been and will continue to be protected under SGNIC’s Privacy Policy.” You can refer to the Frequently Asked Questions below for more information.

1. Why is SGNIC collecting my NRIC number (or other national identification number)?

When you register a .sg domain name and have opted to use SingPass as the administrative contact to access the VerifiedID@SG & RegistryLock Portal, the provision of NRIC number (or other national identification number) will be required. For Singapore business entities, please contact your registrar or service provider to replace the administrative contact’s NRIC number (or other national identification number) to UEN so that you can use CorpPass to access the VerifiedID@SG & RegistryLock Portal.

2. What safeguards are in place to ensure that SGNIC does not mishandle my NRIC number (or other national identification number)?

3. Why is my registrar or my service provider asking for a copy of my NRIC (or other national identification documents)?

Please contact your registrar or service provider to find out the reason for collecting a copy of your NRIC or other national identification documents. SGNIC generally does not request for a copy of such document unless it is required by law or for the purposes of investigating a breach of SGNIC’s policy and agreements. 

4. Will SGNIC safeguard NRIC numbers (or other national identification numbers) provided prior to 1 September 2019?

Yes, it will be protected with SGNIC’s secured storage mechanism.

5. How long will SGNIC keep my NRIC number (or other national identification number) in the registration system?

We do not keep your full NRIC number (or other national identification number) as SGNIC has implemented a secured storage mechanism in the system.
